Today we ventured into Fremantle to check out the new cafe May Street Larder but after finding out the kitchen is already closed we went into the heart of Freo for a “stroll”. I secretly wanted to go to the Fremantle Fish & Chips stall at the Fremantle Market to buy a potato twist. As we walked closer to the Market I jokingly mentioned that we should buy one and my friends all agreed! YAY!
This is the only permanent place I know in Perth that sells potato twists. I’ve only seen them elsewhere at random food festivals and pop-up events.
There are 2 different types of potato twists – plain potato with flavouring of choice ($4.50 each or 2 for $8) or the potato dog which is a sausage wrapped in the potato twist and whole thing is then fried together ($6.50 each or 2 for $12). I personally prefer the plain potato twist because that alone is already heavy enough!
I know it looks pretty simple – a deep-fried whole potato in a twisty shape but OMG the texture and fried consistency is perfect! The flavouring sprinkled on top falls perfectly between the gaps. Simply delicious!
