I stumbled across this new pop-up restaurant on Facebook. What caught my attention was ASIAN BURGERS! If you have ever tried MOS Burgers in Singpapore (they now have one on the Gold Coast) you’ll know exactly what the hype is about.
DON Burger operates out of the same pop-up restaurant location as The Sarapan and J-Bento. When I saw the location on their FB page my heart sunk a little cause I thought they may have replaced The Sarapan. Nope, they replaced the J-Bento operating hours of lunch times Wed-Fri. Half-day-Fridays is coming in handy for me!
This Friday just happened to be Mr Ding Ding’s fly out day so once I fetched him from the airport we headed straight for Vic Park.
WHAT WE ORDERED & THOUGHT
I wanted to get all 3 burgers but Mr DL had to control my inner fatty 🙁
We got the first and the third burger on the menu – The Don Ramen Burger and The Don Rice Burger to share between the 2 of us.
The chicken was really flavoursome and I enjoyed this part of the meal the most. It just needs to be a tad bit more crispy. The noodle “bun” was a bit soggy and lacked flavour.
Again the chicken was nice and tasty but the rice “buns” wasn’t quite right. I don’t remember what type of rice they used (long or sushi rice) but the texture just wasn’t perfect.
Putting the textures aside, both of the burgers had enough flavour for me but Mr DL said they both were too bland for him.
A burger feast is not complete without chips and sauce! So we ordered a side of Steakhouse Chips and both the DON and Yuzu mayo.
The chips were just your average joe. Nothing special. The mayos were nice and creamy. The DON mayo was a lot better in taste than the yuzu mayo. Good job for being adventureous on the yuzu sauce flavour but its not my cup of tea.
Given that this is their first week of business I’m going to give them the benefit of the doubt that there are just a couple of teething issues. I see a lot of potential here though! I’ll give them a few months to fix themselves up before returning.
