Last week, I made a dog cake for Homer (read about it here) so I needed to head into Maylands to The Pet Lovers Cafe to hunt down some dog friendly chocolate. Thank god the cafe opens it’s doors at 8AM! This meant that I could rush into pick up a few bits and piece before heading into work. I made the extra effort to wake up even earlier to try out Mrs S since I was going to be in the area anyway.
Mrs S has been a Perth favourite and one of the original “best brunch” places in Perth. My first visit to Mrs S was so long ago I don’t even remember what I ate. I just remember that the coffee was good but I didn’t quite enjoy the dish I had ordered.
The cute menus always make my heart warm and fuzzy 🙂
To drink, Ning Nong ordered a flat white and for myself I ordered a cappuccino. We both have very similar taste in coffee – we have a palette for sweet coffee beans with chocolate notes to it. On first sip, we both looked at each other with lit up eyes – just how we like it!
For food, I wanted something healthy. On weekdays, my breakfast consists of a small tub of Chobani yoghurt and peppermint tea. Anything too substantial will knock me out and leave me in a food coma for the rest of the day. The breakfast rose and berry pannacotta instantly caught my eye! Packed full of seasonal fruits, pistachio, organic yogurt, quinoa-almond crumble – everything I love. There was not a single thing to fault about this beautiful pannacotta – smooth, light, not too sweet, and I liked the crunch from the crumble. And I still got my intake of morning yogurt 😉
Ning Ning wanted something hot that morning. Something to warm up his big belly :p I wasn’t too keen on the sound of this chorizo, mushroom, and bean hotpot because I generally find breakfast pots to be too salty and saucey. This one was surprisingly tasty with the added touch of a perfectly cooked poached egg and roasted peanuts. I’ve never experienced a crunchy texture within a baked breakfast dish before. I liked this nice surprise! The baked breakfast dishes I’ve tried before were all mushy, had a strong tomato base, and were all overpowering with beans, beans and more beans. I think I actually will order this for myself next time!
Verdict: 8/10! It was worth waking up extra early for! All the dishes were so visually pleasing as well as tasty. Before the cafe even opened up, there was a line of approx 10 people waiting to get a table.
